Vector 

Position (vector)

In geometry, a position, location, or radius vector, usually denoted \mathbf{r}, is a vector which represents the position of a point P in space in relation to an arbitrary reference origin O. It corresponds to the displacement from O to P:
\mathbf{r} = \overrightarrow{OP}.

Applications

  • In linear algebra, a position vector can be expressed as a linear combination of basis vectors.
  • The kinematic movement of a point mass can be described by a vector-valued function giving the position \mathbf{r}(t) as a function of the scalar time parameter t. These are used in mechanics and dynamics to keep track of the positions of particles, point masses, or rigid objects.
  • In differential geometry, position vector fields are used to describe continuous and differentiable space curves, in which case the independent parameter needs not be time, but can be (e.g.) arc length of the curve.

Set Square

Set Square


set square or triangle (American English) is an object used in engineering and technical drawing, with the aim of providing a straightedge at a right angle or other particular planar angle to a baseline.


There are two types of set squares and they are named according to the angles present on each.
Set squares are useful for drawing parallel lines and perpendicular lines.

Drawing Parallel Lines

A ruler and set square can be used to draw parallel lines as described below.
Step 1:  Position an edge of the set square against a ruler and draw a line along one of the other edges.
Step 2:  Slide the set square into a new position while keeping the ruler fixed exactly at the same position.
Step 3:  Draw a line along the same edge that was used in Step 1.

Differences between IGCSE and O' Level Mathematics

Differences between IGCSE and O' Level Mathematics

 The main differences between O Level and IGCSE Mathematics are as follows:

  • IGCSE Maths is available with or without Coursework, whereas O Level Maths is only available without Coursework. 
  • IGCSE has Core and Extended options (grades C-G and A* to E available respectively), O level has grades A to E available. 
  • O level Maths has a non-calculator paper whereas IGCSE Maths requires a calculator for both papers.
  • Examining time: 4.5 hours for O' level Maths compared with 3 hours for Core IGCSE Maths and 4 hours for Extended IGCSE Maths. 
  • There is no question choice for IGCSE Maths; for O level Maths there is limited question choice in Paper 2. 
  • O level Maths question paper weighting is 50% per paper; IGCSE Maths is 35% for the first paper, 65% for the second.
